Introducing our
Autumn Equinox
Artist:

Bee Scoular

"I practice art using animation, painting and pen drawings. My main source of inspiration comes from the natural world and is often either incorporated or the basis for any pieces I make. I hope to express and share this appreciation with other people through my work."

"I enjoy spending time outside which often inspires what I create and from my experience its an area pretty much dominated by non-queer men, and I've often been in situations where I've felt that my identity as a queer woman is out of place doing something I love.

While I've started to find communities of queer people who enjoy the outdoors as much as I do, I feel like there are few people I can learn from who also make space for queerness.

For me, I was able to explore my own queerness though media, especially films, TV shows and books that have queer characters, especially queer women.

I was always a big reader and these stories gave me a sense  of escapism from my relatively conservative town, even today where I am surrounded by queer friends I still value queer stories and think their value is widely under rated.

I think it is a really good way to normalise queerness in general and provide spaces  for people to explore their gender and sexuality where wider society doesn't. "
